Why do I hav to pay to enter Nidaros Cathedral?

Your admission fee directly supports the restoration of Nidaros Cathedral. We never charge for people to enter the cathedral to attend a service.

Can I enter the tower?

From June to August, tower climbs are arranged up the central tower of Nidaros Cathedral.

For safety reasons, there is an 8-year age limit and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Please be aware that the stairs are narrow and steep. Wear sturdy shoes. People with heart problems, asthma, epilepsy or claustrophobia are not recommended to take the trip up.

Why is the royal regalia on display in Trondheim?

It is stated in the Norwegian Constitution that Nidaros Cathedral is Norway's coronation church.

The regalia was commissioned by Carl Johan to his own coronation in 1818. Since the the King’s crown has been used in four coronations and two consecration ceremonies. The royal regalia of Norway are on display in the west wing of the Archbishop’s Palace.
