The cathedral workshops have had archives from its very beginning to present. This is securing knowledge of restoration desistions for150 years and further back, givingthe conservationists knowledge about situations that may appear again.
The scientific monitoring and research is closely connected with professional crafts performance in NidarosCathedral Workshops. Our achaeologists, historians, architect and conservators are studying the development closely to understand and prepare for neccesary action in the buildings.
Even though we now are only restoring and maintaining the cathedral and the Arch bishops palace we compare this with the traditional medieaval buildingsite organisation and in Norwegian called Bygghytte.(Building workshop/atelier
