5 highlights of Nidaros Cathedral during the World Championships

The Nidaros Cathedral Restoration Team (NDR) and the Nidaros Cathedral parish want Nidaros Cathedral to be experienced as a respite for visitors to Trondheim during the championship, in between cheers, crowds, competitions and medal ceremonies. Here are some of the highlights.

Opening concert 26 and 27 February

A magnificent concert experience where Nidaros Cathedral is decorated for the occasion in magical winter lights that shine in time with the music from Trondheim Symphony & Opera, Nidaros Cathedral Boys' Choir, Nidaros Cathedral Choir, Schola Sanctae Sunnivae, organists, violinist Marianne Thorsen and Gunnhild Sundli singing the World Cup song.

Family tour

A different tour of Nidaros Cathedral, where the family gets to know the cathedral's long and dramatic history and some of the legends associated with St. Olav and his tomb church.

Escape room in the crypt of Nidaros Cathedral

An exciting experience for friends or families with older children in the crypt under Nidaros Cathedral. The group must solve a mission within 30 minutes. In the crypt there are clues that you must interpret to move on.

Organ battle 8 March

A star-studded duel between Norway and Sweden. Two improvising organists, Inger-Lise Ulsrud (Norway) and Carl Adam Landström (Sweden), meet in a unique competition. Among other things, the audience will hear them play Bach and improvise over well-known melodies. Marianne Meløy guides us through the concert with a twinkle in her eye. Whether you come alone, with friends or family, this is the evening to experience an organ concert out of the ordinary!

The Royal Regalia

Side by side with Nidaros Cathedral, lies the Archbishop's Palace. In the dark vaulted rooms in the Archbishop's Palace's west wing, the royal crown and the rest of the Norwegian crown jewels are on display. Here you can experience crowns, swords, scepters, the orb and other coronation equipment.

Anne Strømmen, head of the audience department at Nidaros Cathedral Restoration, is looking forward to welcoming both visiting and local guests.

- We hope that many visitors during the Ski World Championships will visit Nidaros Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace. We have extended our opening hours and has many activities. Escape room in the crypt is something that many people find very exciting. And maybe you didn't know that the Norwegian royal crown is located with us in the Archbishop's Palace?

Vegard Naustdal, music producer in the parish of Nidaros Cathedral, particularly highlights the official opening concert as an experience worth experiencing.

- A concert in Nidaros Cathedral is a powerful experience. During the World Cup we have planned 5 very different concerts, but all at a high musical level. If I had to highlight one of them, it would have to be the opening concert. Magnificent music, combined with spectacular lighting of the church room, makes this a goosebumps experience.
